🦵 What Happens During ACL Reconstruction?

ACL reconstruction is a commonly performed arthroscopic knee surgery used to reconstruct a torn ACL and help restore knee stability.

But what actually happens during the procedure? 👇

🔹 1. Anesthesia & Preparation
You are given appropriate anesthesia and the knee is prepared for surgery.

🔹 2. Arthroscopy
Small incisions are made and a camera is inserted to examine the inside of the knee and assess the ACL, meniscus and cartilage.

🔹 3. Graft Preparation
A suitable graft is prepared. Depending on the patient and surgical plan, graft options may include hamstring, patellar tendon or quadriceps tendon.

🔹 4. Creating Bone Tunnels
Precise tunnels are created in the femur and tibia to position the new ACL graft correctly.

🔹 5. Graft Placement & Fixation
The graft is passed through the tunnels and secured using appropriate fixation devices to restore knee stability.

🔹 6. Recovery & Rehabilitation
After surgery, a structured rehabilitation program helps restore movement, strength, balance and knee function.

⚠️ ACL reconstruction is not just about the surgery. Proper rehabilitation and gradual return to activity are essential for a successful recovery.
