🦴 Metal Plates & Screws: Do They Need to Be Removed?

Not always! Metal plates and screws used after a fracture surgery can often remain in the body permanently once the bone has healed—if they are comfortable and not causing any problems.

🔹 Removal may be considered if there is:
• Persistent pain or irritation
• Prominent or uncomfortable hardware
• Infection around the implant
• Loosening or breakage
• Tendon irritation
• Restricted movement

⚠️ Important: Implant removal is another surgical procedure and is not automatically required after fracture healing. Your orthopedic surgeon should assess the fracture, implant condition, symptoms and X-rays before making a decision.
