Why Do Older Adults Develop a Stooped Posture? Orthopedic, Bones, Pain, Fracture, THR, TKR, Jaipur
🧓 Why Do Older Adults Develop a Stooped Posture?

A bent-forward or stooped posture is common with aging—but it is NOT always just a normal part of getting older.

🦴 Common causes include:
• Age-related spinal changes
• Osteoporosis & vertebral compression fractures
• Weak back and core muscles
• Spinal kyphosis
• Poor posture habits
• Arthritis & spinal stiffness
• Certain neurological conditions

⚠️ When should you be concerned?
If the posture is progressively worsening or is accompanied by new back pain, loss of height, difficulty walking, balance problems, or symptoms after a fall, an orthopedic evaluation is important.

💪 Depending on the cause, treatment may include physiotherapy, posture and balance exercises, muscle strengthening, osteoporosis management, and treatment of underlying spinal conditions.

🚨 Sudden severe back pain after a minor fall—especially in someone with osteoporosis—should not be ignored, as it may indicate a vertebral compression fracture.
